The following is a list of the special 70mm and Cinema Digital Sound presentations of “Edward Scissorhands” in North America. The 70mm prints were pillarboxed blow-ups (approximately 1.85:1) sourced from spherical 35mm. The audio (noted after each listing) was either Six-Track Dolby Stereo (“A” encoded) or Cinema Digital Sound. The channel layout for these presentations was Left-Center-Right-Surround. (No .1 LFE/Baby Boom content was present in the mix.) The 20th Century Fox release was directed by Tim Burton and starred Johnny Depp and Winona Ryder.

A note about the Los Angeles run: The Los Angeles engagement was Cinema Digital Sound on 35mm, the first time in the United States digital sound was showcased from a 35mm print. (All previous digital sound presentations were either double-system experiments or 70mm.) This engagement was originally scheduled to have been a 70mm-CDS print, but at the filmmaker’s request a 35mm “show print” was used instead, and the 70mm print was sent to San Francisco. The Los Angeles area newspaper advertisements promoted the originally-scheduled 70mm presentation in advance and for the first few days of the engagement until revised ads appeared that accurately reflected the 35mm presentation.

* 35mm Cinema Digital Sound
** 70mm Cinema Digital Sound
*** 70mm Six-Track Dolby Stereo
