The following is a reference/historical list of the 70mm first-run engagements
of “Zoot Suit” in North America. These were pillarboxed blow-ups (approximately
1.85:1) sourced from spherical 35mm. The audio was Six-Track Stereo (Sensurround
Plus and DBX-encoded, single-surround). The Universal release starred Edward
James Olmos and was directed by Luis Valdez. The world premiere was held at the
Cinerama Dome on October 1st, 1981, and opened to the public the next day.

1981-10-09 … Orange, CA — Syufy’s Cinedome 6-plex (10)
1981-10-09 … San Jose, CA — Syufy’s Century 22 Triplex (6)
1981-12-16 … Los Angeles, CA — Pacific’s Picwood (3) <moveover from Cinerama
The San Jose print was destroyed in a fire.
The Picwood run was double-billed with “The Jazz Singer” during third week.
