I enjoyed reading your Tab Presentation and always remembered that only old run down theatres didn't have a curtain to protect the screen, they always had masking though.
Some of the more larger Theatres had multiple curtains that lifted up and then another set that pulled to the side for the Roadshow style presentations, not the masking but a complete set of curtains. I always found this exciting plus with the lighting effects very memorable. A lot of the theatres in New Zealand would use Hank Marvins "Sacha" for the overture.
But as always there is nothing more exciting than the red Cinerama curtains opening up on that giant curved screen.
