The 70mm Newsletter
Written by: Björn Nordin, Stockholm July 18, 2025 Date: 01.01.2026
Here is my list of 70mm cinemas in Stockholm. I hope you find it useful. Don't hesitate to get in touch if you have any questions, I'm just happy to make a small contribution. I was born in 1954 and ever since I saw "Windjammer" at the Vinterpalatset CINERAMA cinema in the late 50s, I've been hooked on big screens and 70mm.

I give examples of some of the movies I have seen in 70mm at these cinemas and what the premises are used for today:

Vinterpalatset (CINERAMA)

Windjammer, South Sea Adventure (3-strip), It’s a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad, World, The Hallelujah Trail, Airport, Ice Station Zebra, 2001, The Wild Bunch, Kelly’s Heroes, Where Eagles Dare, Earthquake….

• Go to Vinterpalatset A Story of Magnificence, Proud and Mourned

Demolished.

Rigoletto

The Longest Day, Patton (D150), Batman, Who Framed Roger Rabbit, 2001, Murder at the Orient Express (2017), The Hateful Eight, Lawrence of Arabia, Dune: Part Two

Sergel
My Fair Lady, Those Magnificent Men… Silent Running, 2010, 2001, Aliens, ET, Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom

Skandia/LOOK
Gone With The Wind, Paint Your Wagon, That’s Entertainment, 2001. With their new projectors; Lawrence of Arabia (May 2025).

Open, as Skandia, was named LOOK between 1968 – 1991, digital and 70mm, now operated by Stockholm Film Festival. Sweden’s most beautiful cinema!.

Saga

China The Fall of the Roman Empire.

Open as a theatre, it was originally built as a combination of cinema and theatre in 1928.

Around the Word in 80 Days, The Great Race. I saw these movies in the 60s/early 70s, I'm only 80% sure Rival had 70mm projectors.
