"Sensurround" - the sound system from 1974, which premiered with "Earthquake", about a catastrophic earthquake in Los Angeles. Sensurround added a whole new dimension for the moviegoers, by adding sound at extremely low frequencies at very high levels. The audience actually FELT the rumbles created by huge Cervin Vega loudspeakers.
Herbert Born continues; "I have located prints of all titles and have the enthusiastic support from the speaker experts. We also have 4 original MCA Sensurrround control boxes, including the rare generator and magnetic preamp cards for these control boxes. | Office: +49 721 3500 011 Cell +49 175 1097 804

We showed "Earthquake" a few years ago where we brought in 24 huge JBL subwoofers, each equipped with two 18" woofers. That is a serious array of speakers, which can move a lot of air. It's a bit complicated because you must use the developer software of the DSP speakers, allowing you to go below the safety limits. If we don't do it right, the speakers can blow away. We use a lot of speakers and amplifiers to minimize the risk of blowing speakers.
It will be great fun to do it again in 2010. It is probably the only opportunity to see all these films they way they were intended - with the loud sound pressure level below 40 Hertz. Today, audiences are used to low sub bass in the cinemas, but when Sensurround came out, nobody had heard anything like this before."
And finally, you can not see Sensurround ... you FEEL it!! | |

"Zoot Suit" will not be included in the Schauburg Sensurround festival because it was never a real Sensurround movie. It did not use the horns. "Zoot Suit" simply used the DBX circuits implemented in the Sensurround control units from revision 3 on. No real Sensurround, just DBX noise reduction and the decision to advertise it as "SENSURROUND Plus" was wrong, and it bombed. It will never sell a ticket in a real Sensurround festival, where audience expects to experience the real and not fake marketing attempts. ... | "Zoot Suit": The last film in 70mm and Sensurround Plus |
