| Compiled by: Michael Coate | Date: 01.05.2018 | The following is a reference / historical listing of the 70-millimeter presentations of “Mackenna’s Gold” in North America. The film’s 70mm prints featured discrete six-channel stereophonic sound and full-frame imagery sourced from a mixture of 65mm photography and 35mm blow-up footage.
“Mackenna’s Gold” was among nine confirmed first-run films released in 1969 with 70mm prints for selected engagements. The Carl Foreman production and Columbia release was directed by J. Lee Thompson and starred Gregory Peck, Omar Sharif and Telly Savalas.
The film’s North American premiere was held in Phoenix, Arizona, on May 10th, 1969. (Despite being an American production, the film was released in several international locales prior to the United States and Canada.) These were continuous performance, general release bookings (i.e. not roadshow).
