Paul H Rayton. Picture by Thomas Hauerslev.

It is traditional to withhold the name of the recipient of this nomination until as late in this speech as possible. However, when that name is announced it is certain to elicit mass approval.

After numerous enquiring 'phone calls and e-mails across and around the world, a profile began to emerge of a man whose passionate enthusiasm for the 70mm widescreen film format is almost an obsession.

Wherever he goes...and he is a world traveller...he is unable to resist any opportunity of seeking out, discussing, and promoting what for him must surely be "The Big Seven Zero" A professional and invaluable contributor to Thomas Hauerslev's 70mm Newsletter Internet Website. He proofreads every issue before Thomas posts it on the net.

He is a regular and loyal visitor to the event in which we are all now participating, travelling thousands of miles to get here and bringing with him reels of film for our interest and delight.

This man works in one of the most prestigious cinemas in the world, where, in addition to his daily routine, he organizes and stages Widescreen Film Festivals.

That cinema, despite a change of name, is a part of cinematic history that goes right back to the very birth of the motion picture industry. It has miraculously survived every imaginable disaster...including earthquakes!

It was Grauman's Egyptian Theatre

It is The American Cinematheque

We are absolutely delighted to warmly welcome and to honour Paul Rayton.
