It is with great pleasure that Biffen, can present the remastered version of
Louis de Rochemont's CineMiracle Adventure "Windjammer" for 4 days in July 2010.

In connection with the Tall Ship Race festival in our harbour (next to the Biffen), we are pleased to welcome "Windjammer" back to Aalborg, where it originally opened in 1959.

"Windjammer" is a travelogue about the Norwegian school ship "Christian Radich". Filmed in Cinemiracle and produced by legendary Louis de Rochemont.

"Windjammer" was a colossal success when it was released, and it was seen by millions of people all over the world. Many of them still remember the film vividly.

"Windjammer" was photographed in the unique process called Cinemiracle, a "first-person-experience", which, combined with 7-channel Hi-Fi stereo sound, gave the spectator a very realistic sensation of being "in the movie".

The Cinemiracle process was a unique photographic technique for filming a 146 degree wide image on three separate film strips (panels). In the cinema, the three panels were projected side-by-side by three synchronized projectors on the huge curved screen to form a perfect wide vista.

This edition of “Windjammer” is a digital version, where all three panels are shown from one projector on Biffen's curved screen

We are also welcoming Carin-Anne and David Strohmaier to Aalborg, who will be with us giving the introduction to the film "How Windjammer Got a Facelift".

Thanks to Pacific Theatres and John Sittig

David And Carin Anne Strohmaier host a special presentation on how "Windjammer" was digitally remastered with elements from the Swedish Film Institute. This will be a behind the scenes look at the detailed processes that were involved in cleaning up the images and adding color back into the film. Many before and after examples will be shown along with a little history of the Christian Radich itself.
