Seeing "Licorice Pizza" in 70mm was an Outstanding Experience
70mm Report from Paris, France

Today is a rainy day in Paris. The new movie from Paul Thomas Anderson was released in France on January the 5th. "Licorice Pizza" was shot in 35mm and only a few 70mm blow-up prints have been printed. So here we are at the L'Arlequin, the only cinema in Paris who can project the movie in its 70mm version. This is the only cinema in Paris which is still able to project movies in 70mm along with The Cinematheque.

"Licore Pizza" is my second 70mm experience after "Tenet" last year at The UGC Grand Normandie (which had to rent a 70mm projector for the movie). You can see the movie in the main room with a capacity of 400 seats.

Seeing "Licorice Pizza" in 70mm was an outstanding experience. At the beginning of the movie, you notice a little flickering of the image that you are not used to see. Then you start to adapt to this projection which is more "alive" than numeric (digital) projection. The colors of the 70mm [print] are very warm and the faces of the characters are very defined. You can see every detail of sets and clothes. I have the feeling that the 70mm projection gives more impact to the movie and i would say "Licorice Pizza" was an excellent movie.

I hope that we can see more 70mm prints in the future.
