The
following is a reference / historical listing of the 70-millimeter
engagements of Airport in the United States and Canada. These were the
cinemas worth seeking out to experience this motion picture.
The Universal release was produced by Ross Hunter and directed by George
Seaton and featured an all-star cast headed by Burt Lancaster, Dean Martin,
Helen Hayes and George Kennedy.
Out of the hundreds of films released during 1970, Airport was among only
eleven released with 70mm prints (four from 65mm origination, including
Airport, plus seven blow-ups).
The 70mm prints of Airport featured full-frame imagery (from 65mm Todd-AO
cinematography) and discrete six-channel stereophonic sound.
