The following is a reference / historical listing of the 70-millimeter engagements of “Krakatoa, East of Java” in the United States and Canada. These were the cinemas worth seeking out to experience this motion picture.

The ABC and Cinerama presentation was directed by Bernard Kowalski and starred Maximilian Schell, Diane Baker, Brian Keith and Sal Mineo.

The North American premiere of “Krakatoa” was held in Los Angeles on May 14th. (The film’s world premiere was held a few months earlier in Tokyo.)

Out of the hundreds of films released during 1969, “Krakatoa” was among only ten released with 70mm prints (three, including “Krakatoa,” from 65mm origination and seven blow-ups).

The 70mm prints of “Krakatoa” featured discrete six-channel stereophonic sound and full-frame imagery sourced from 65mm photography.

The majority of the 70mm presentations of “Krakatoa” were reserved-performance engagements with unreserved seating and with as many as four scheduled screenings per day.
