Written by: Zdenek Stepanek, Panorama, Varnsdorf Date: 21.04.2016
Dear Movie Friends,

This year, the 70mm Cinema Centrum Panorama, in Varnsdorf, Czech Republic, located on the border with Germany, celebrates its 45th anniversary of its opening. In 1971 a brand new modern 70mm cinema was built in Varnsdorf. We take this opportunity to invite you to our 70mm weekend, from 12 - 15 May 2016. Once again we invite our audience to witness a unique experience with the royal film format. It will be a weekend full of rare films, which rarely appeared on similar screens, if ever at all.

As a large pearl of our 70mm Weekend we present the film "The Big Fisherman" from 1959, directed by Frank Borzage. The film tells the biblical story of the angler Peter who became a follower of Jesus. The story is not only about Peter's redemption and forgiveness, but also about a young Arab-Jewish girl called Fara. Jesus' teaching changes both of their lives. The film received favourable reviews from The Legion of Decency, The Christian Science Monitor, and similar religious bodies.

On the big 70mm screen, this film hasn't been screened in 56 years! At the Panorama you can see it on the 120 m2 curved screen with a full six-channel magnetic sound track. This film will shown in the German version with subtitles.

It is the first film made in a Super Panavision 70 process. Ultimately the process was named Super Panavision 70, but it was also referred to as Panavision 70, Super Panavision, Panavision, "Photographic Process by Panavision", and Panavision Super 70. "The Big Fisherman" was road showed in 70mm in 47 cities.

More information about this title can be found Martin Hart's "The American Widescreen Museum".

Not only can you look films projected in 70mm ,but also a variety of a bouquet of technical presentations, rarities and other movie attractions. Visitors can look forward not only to the quality cinematic experience, but also to a gastronomic feast. Accommodation close to the cinema is available from 10 EUR per night.

More information about 70 millimetres Weekend can be found on our website and Facebook.
