Dimension 150, About, Films and People

Provision should be made for a screen of at least 120' of arc. A floor-to-ceiling, wall-to-wall illusion is
highly desirable.
Richard
Vetter Passed Away By Robert Weisgerber With all the trials and tribulations that Dick went through over the
years in Hollywood
he always believed
firmly in the 70mm
format and the value
it brought to
feature films,
yesterday, today and
tomorrow. He was
extremely
knowledgeable and
was willing to share
it all, but most
importantly a true
gentleman. We will
all miss him!
Carl
Williams Passed
Away The Williams
Family
It was at UCLA that
he and fellow
faculty member, Dr.
Richard Vetter,
invented a
wide-screen
photographic and
presentation system
called
Dimension-150.
Introduced in 1966,
the system was soon
being installed in
movie theaters
around the world and
for a time, the
D-150 process was
one of Cinerama's
chief rivals
Who

• Carl Williams born in Decatur, Illinois, USA March 9, 1927. Co-developed the Dimension-150
widescreen process 1957 - 1963 and formed D-150, Inc. 1963.
• Richard Vetter born in San Diego, California, USA February 28,
1928. Inventor and co-developed the Dimension-150 widescreen process
1957 - 1963 and formed D-150, Inc. 1963.
The
Passing of Joe Kelly By Leimeter, Vetter, Weisgerber &
Williams Joe Kelly was one of the truly good guys in the world. He was my unofficial
technical guru during the time when Todd-AO was still affiliated with the
United Artists Theatre Corporation.
CINEMA
Cinerama and Todd-AO at the Syossett by Joe Kelley
The screen frame had an adjustable curvature to accommodate the Todd AO
specified deep chord depth while permitting 35mm Flat and Scope wide
screen formats to form lesser chord depths.
D-150, Coliseum, London By Harry Rigby
I have just come across these two photos I took at the Coliseum in
London in the 1960s when they were playing "The Bible – In The
Beginning". It shows the D150 lens nicely.
"Star
Wars" Presented in
Dimension 150 By Derek Young
When "Star Wars"
premiered in London
in 1977, it was the
last film to be
presented in
Dimension 150 at the
Odeon Marble Arch
THE BIBLE
"The Bible...in
the beginning" By Wolfram
Hannemann
The movie
"The Bible" was achieved over a period of five years, three of which were needed for pre-production. It was the brainchild of Italian producer Dino De Laurentiis. He had the idea of making a movie covering the first 22 chapters of the book of books when doing some research while working on
"Barabbas"
PATTON
The Photography of "Patton" By George J. Mitchel The sharpness and resolution of the D-150 lenses is amply demonstrated
in the prologue. There are screen-filling close-ups of Patton's pistols, his
decorations, his West Point ring. The clarity of detail, despite the
magnification, is amazing.
"Harmony: Nature and Man"
Washington State Film for EXPO 70 in Dimension 150
"Harmony: Nature and Man" is one of the most
comprehensive documentaries on a U.S. state ever produced, to be the major
attraction of the Washington State Pavilion at the 1970 Osaka Worlds Fair in
Japan. The film will be photographed and exhibited in the 70mm Dimension 150
process, the only
current motion
picture process of
both a photographic
and an exhibition
system
Come
Back D-150 ....All Is Forgiven
By Grant Lobban Known simply as D-150, it was the invention of two members of
the University of California, Dr Richard Vetter, and Carl W.
Williams. The system was a scaled-up version of an earlier
development of theirs for a driving simulator.
The
D-150 Curvulon Lens
By Richard Vetter The D-150 Super Curvulon lens attachment was a basic design that I
conceived and submitted to Kollmorgen Corp. in 1964 and that
company was commissioned by D-150 to perform the final
design and fabricate prototypes.
General Building
Specifications for the Dimension-150 All-Purpose Theatre
The concept of the
"all-purpose-theatre" for Dimension 150 exhibition, and the
exhibition of all other existing screen processes has been studied by D-150,
Inc for several years. The "all-
purpose-theatre" should be unique in appearance, functional in design, and economical in construction,
operation and maintenance.

150 Visual Display for U.C.L.A. Driving Simulator
By S. F. Hulbert and C. K. Wojcik
The U.C.L.A. Driving Simulator has been developed as a research tool
in the field of highway safety. This simulator is a projection room
in which an automobile is driven on steel rollers of a standard
chassis dynamometer while the driver views the road scene that is
projected onto a curved screen 8.5 ft in radius. The driver also
views the road scene behind him by looking through the rear-view
mirror at a motion picture projected on a screen placed beyond the
rear window of the vehicle. The field of vision of the front view is
150 deg. The projection technique used is a special type of motion
picture presentation called Dimension 150
