A two-sided World Premiere advert in the New York VARIETY dated 11 November 1959. At the Loew's State Theatre 147.641 people have paid $339.358 exclusive of taxes, to see the film in its first 83 performances. (Source: "New York VARIETY"). The festive West-Coast-Premiere of the movie took place on 24 November 1959 at the Egyptian Theatre in Los Angeles where it subsequently ran for 98 weeks.

Eine zweiseitige Weltpremierenannonce vom 11. November 1959 in der "New York VARIETY". "In den ersten 83 Vorstellungen haben 147.641 Besucher 339.358 Dollar, abzüglich Steuern, im Loew`s State Theatre bezahlt, um den Film zu sehen." (Quelle: "New York VARIETY"). Die festliche "West-Coast-Premiere" des Films fand am 24. November 1959 im Egyptian Theatre in Los Angeles statt, wo er nachfolgend 98 Wochen lang lief.

"Raintree County" (USA, 1957) at Berlin`s Titania-Palast. Advert dated 27 July 1962. There is written in the advert that the movie is shown in MGM Camera 65. We already know: This movie was never shown in 70mm format - but, of course, due to the reduction in a better CinemaScope image quality.

"Das Land des Regenbaums"(Raintree County, USA, 1957) in Berlins Titania-Palast. Annonce vom 27. Juli 1962. In der Anzeige steht, dass der Film in MGM-Camera 65 gezeigt wird. Wir wissen bereits: Dieser Film wurde nie im 70mm-Format vorgeführt - allerdings durch die Reduktion natürlich in einer recht guten CinemaScope-Bildqualität.

The advert included the following information:

Under the protectorate of the Bavarian Minister of State for Labour and Social Welfare, Mr Walter Stein: The festive GERMAN GALA PREMIERE in support of the Deutsche Filmkünstler-Nothilfe (German film artists’ charity) and in the presence of top stars from Germany and abroad will take place on 14 October, at 08.00 pm, at the ROYAL-PALAST. A limited number of premiere tickets are available at the box office. From Saturday, 15 October, film screenings at 02.30 and 08.00 pm daily, advance tickets at DM 3.10 to DM 7.10 available at the box office (Tel.: 53 39 56) and in the Horn department store at the main railway station and the Ostbahnhof.

Eine große, eindrucksvolle zweiseitige Annonce in der "Österreichischen Film- und Kinozeitung" vom Dezember 1960.

On the left: Charlton Heston (04.10.1923 - 05.04.2008) at the German pre-premiere of the movie "Alaska" (USA, 1996) in Berlin`s Royal-Palast on 22 September 1996 (photo taken by the author). The movie's director is Fraser Clarke Heston, the son of Charlton Heston, and on the right: Heston's autobiography "In the Arena" - the Jewish prince in his big screen presence.

Fraser Clarke Heston was born on 12 February 1955. He entered the movie industry shortly afterwards. He could be seen on screen as a baby, cast out onto the Nile in a woven basket in Cecil B. DeMille's epic movie "The Ten Commandments" (USA, 1956).

A two-sided advert in the "New York Variety" dated 17 August 1960: Only at the beginning of its Box-Office success story: "Ben-Hur" is going stronger than ever! Since its launching 39 weeks ago "Ben-Hur" has opened in 65 cities in its roadshow engagements and in each of these situations is making box-office history!

Eine zweiseitige Anzeige in der "New York Variety" vom 17. August 1960: Nur am Anfang seiner Box-Office-Erfolgsgeschichte: "Ben-Hur" wird stärker als je zuvor! Seit seiner Uraufführung vor 39 Wochen lief "Ben-Hur" in 65 Städten als Roadshow-Ereignis an und bei allen brach er Kassenrekorde!

 
 
"Ben-Hur arrives". There was also a "Ben-Hur" exhibition with paintings by the artist Benjamin A. Stahl in the foyer of the Berlin MGM-Theatre on the Kurfürstendamm during the time of the IX International Film Festival which took place from 26.06.1959 to 07.07.1959.

"Ben-Hur kommt". Es gab auch eine "Ben-Hur"-Ausstellung mit Zeichnungen von dem Künstler Benjamin A. Stahl im Foyer des Berliner MGM-Theaters am Kurfürstendamm während der IX. Internationalen Filmfestspiele, die vom 26.06.1959 bis zum 07.07.1959 stattfanden.
