Burbank, Calif., February 23, 2004 – "Around the World in 80 Days", – great action/adventure titles from Warner Home Video (WHV) – will be released May 18 as deluxe, newly remastered Two-Disc Special Edition DVDs, with "Around the World in 80 Days", (one of the most requested DVDs ever) making their DVD debuts (in widescreen). In plenty of time for Father’s Day (June 20th) gift giving, the film will be priced at $26.99 SRP/$19.95 MAP and orders are due April 20.

“Consumers have asked for this title repeatedly -- it´s a great movies for Dads… perfect for Father’s Day,” says Michael Radiloff, WHV’s Vice President of Theatrical Catalog Marketing. “In addition, awareness and want-to-see for the original "Around the World in 80 Days" will be especially high with the Jackie Chan theatrical remake being released in June. For decades, TV and video versions of "Around the World in 80 Days" were edited or reformatted to fit standard 4x3 television sets. We’re thrilled that DVD has enabled us to present this ever-popular epic in the way its creators intended it to be seen – uncut and remastered in beautiful widescreen format.”

Best Picture Academy Award®-winning 1956 blockbuster

"Around the World in 80 Days" – This celebrated Best Picture Academy Award®-winning 1956 blockbuster finally makes its DVD debut after years atop the most requested DVD wish lists, with the complete and uncut 182 minute widescreen version. Boasting an international crew of nearly 2600, a 44-member all-star cast headed by David Niven; Cantinflas, the famous Mexican comedic actor; Shirley MacLaine and 68,894 extras, this film launched the big-budget, big special effects era in Hollywood.

While producing "Around the World in 80 Days" Mike Todd invented the term "cameo" calling them “gems etched in celluloid by stars,” and then enticed Frank Sinatra, Marlene Dietrich, Noel Coward, Peter Lorre, Buster Keaton, Red Skelton, among others, to enhance his film by doing tiny roles. He also convinced newscaster Edward R. Murrow to narrate the prologue.

Adapted from the Jules Verne novel about a Victorian Englishman who bets that with the new steamships and railways he can actually travel "around the world in 80 days," the film premiered with one of the most massive PR campaigns in movie history, scoring record box-office numbers and a 16-month run that kept many theaters completely sold out for weeks. The film went on to win eight Academy Award® nominations and five Oscars® for Best Picture, Best Cinematography, Best Screenplay Adaptation, Best Editing and Best Musical Score.
