Caption (Picture missing): The Altec developed Switching Relay Equalizer rack, permitting
knob-control switching from TODD-AO, to Cinema-Scope 4-track, to
Perspecta, to optical print sound tracks, is shown at right. Above, Fred
Pfeiff, of TODD-AO, is seen operating the relay switch at front of the
Altec panel.
Climaxing numerous technical contributions its engineering staff has
made to the sound phases of the TODD-AO system, Altec Service
Corporation last week put into production its Switching Relay-Equalizer
which provides compatibility with all existing sound systems. The device
allows the projectionist to select the sound operation for TODD-AO,
CinemaScope 4-track magnetic, Perspecta and standard optical prints. The
Altec panel provides individual equalization and level balancing
controls for 20 magnetic tracks. On a two-projector installation, the
facilities allow setting the six-TODD-AO channels on each projector for
dentical quality; likewise the four CinemaScope channels on each
machine.
