The following is a reference / historical listing
of the 70-millimeter presentations of “The Manitou” in North America. These were
arguably the best cinemas in which to experience this motion picture.
“The Manitou” was among nine confirmed first-run films released in 1978 with
70mm prints for selected engagements. A single 70mm print was reportedly struck
for selected bookings. The Avco Embassy release was directed by William Girdler
and starred Tony Curtis, Michael Ansara and Susan Strasberg.
The 70mm print of “The Manitou” featured Six-Track Dolby Stereo (“A” encoded
Baby Boom format) and full-frame imagery blown up from anamorphic 35mm.
