The
following is a reference/historical listing of the 70-millimeter
presentations of “The Towering Inferno” in North America. These were the
best cinemas in which to experience this motion picture.
“The Towering Inferno” was among four confirmed first-run films released in
1974 with 70mm prints for selected engagements. The Irwin Allen production
and Warner Bros./20th Century-Fox release was directed by John Guillerman
and starred Steve McQueen, Paul Newman, William Holden and Faye Dunaway.
The film’s 70mm prints featured discrete six-channel stereophonic sound and
full-frame imagery blown up from anamorphic 35mm.
