| Compiled by: Michael Coate | Date: 02.11.2016 | The following is a reference/historical list of the 70mm first-run engagements of “Wolfen” in North America. These were full-frame (2.20:1) prints blown up from anamorphic 35mm photography. The audio was Six-Track Dolby Stereo* (“A” encoded, single-surround). The Orion release — directed by Michael Wadleigh and starring Albert Finney — opened on July 24th, 1981.
CALIFORNIA Los Angeles — Pacific’s Picwood (6 weeks)
NEW YORK New York — RKO Stanley-Warner’s Cinerama Twin (3)
SUBSEQUENT ENGAGEMENTS 1981-11-13 … Los Angeles, CA — Mann’s Hollywood (2) <w/“Dragonslayer”>
*The book “Wide Screen Movies” includes a claim that “Wolfen” was a Megasound release. The claim is suspect since none of the engagements cited here were promoted as such.
This information has been principally referenced from film industry trade publications and regional newspaper promotion. Any subsequent runs (move-overs, second run, re-release, midnight, festival, etc.) and international engagements have not been accounted for in this article.
