Director James Quinn's brand new 9-minute 70mm short film "Daughter of Dismay" world premiered Sunday 6. October 2019 at The Todd-AO Festival in Karlsruhe, Germany. "Daughter of Dismay" premiered some weeks earlier in digital format, but THIS was the REEL thing: in 70mm. This was the version of the film which the director had envisioned from the beginning.

James was quite enthusiastic about the Schauburg Cinerama theatre, and most pleased with the 70mm presentation on the huge curved screen, and he said:

"We just had the 70mm world premiere of "Daughter of Dismay", at the Todd AO 70mm Film Festival in Karlsruhe, Germany, in the most beautiful Cinerama theater I’ve ever seen, on a huge curved screen. The film looked absolutely stunning in 70mm and completely confirmed why we chose this format. Just wanted to say thank you again. This was one of the best festivals I've ever been to, and I can't wait to return. Thanks to the everyone in attendance for being so invested in this, I really appreciated all the questions."

-, and continued:

"If you couldn’t make it, "Daughter of Dismay" will be screening in 70mm in front of a print of the new "Joker", in the Schauburg theater in Karlsruhe, Germany, for around 3 - 4 weeks, starting October 10th. Lots of screenings are following and we’re officially starting our roadshow. Thanks again to everyone involved in this fest. You were all effin' great."

"Go see this in 70mm!"

65mm Horror Short "Daughter of Dismay"

Schauburg Cinerama, Karlsruhe, Germany. Home of The Todd-AO Festival

The plot of "Daughter of Dismay" tells the surreal and mystical tale of a witch, an emotionally broken woman who enters the deep of the woods to fulfill her biggest desire, her most heartfelt wish, for which she takes extreme and radical measures, measures that will have sinister consequences, leading to a heartbreaking and deeply melancholic finale.

On the invitation of the Todd-AO Festival, James and lovely Caroline Angell arrived Saturday evening, and joined the festival shortly afterwards. The Austrian / US couple had been booked for two nights into the hotel almost next door to the cinema. The couple joined us for the Premiere Surprise 70mm premiere Saturday evening, followed by drinks at the hotel bar before bed time. For an hour or longer, James and Caroline entertained us with the "Making of Daughter of Dismay" anecdotes to everyone's delight.

Sunday morning was the big premiere and James was as excited as one could be as an artist before a 70mm premiere. The film played well, in a wonderful 70mm print from FotoKem. The audience was very pleased, and gave the film huge applause. After the premiere, James came on stage, and the audience gave him a warm welcome too. The world premiere screening of the 5/70mm print was followed by a 30 minute q/a moderated by the editor of in70mm.com. The audience was on the edge of their seats, with many good questions. Eager to learn about the production of a genuine 65mm film, James answered and retold many good anecdotes from the production in 2018.
