Friends of Schauburg and 70mm film, it is this time of year. Fall season is here, days are getting shorter, it is getting colder, and it is time to move inside a cinema and see films again. Not just any films, but BIGGER and BRIGHTER films. Not only that, but also SHARPER and with more DEPTH than anything you can see in a cinema. It is time for the 5th Todd-AO Festival, which celebrates everything that is bigger and better in the cinema. Yes, it is time for 70MM FILMS!

For the first-timer, the “5th Todd-AO Festival” presents a unique opportunity to experience the ultimate in cinema presentation: 70mm film with 6-track stereophonic sound in a ideally designed cinema. Sitting relaxed in a comfortably chair, on the curved rows, in front of the huge curved screen. You are in for the experience of a lifetime. An unparalleled goose bump ride. This is the best of the best. Big, bright, rock steady and ultra sharp images and a smooth wonderful 6-track magnetic sound - very pleasing to the human ear. 70mm film is like a window to the world.

The 5th Todd-AO Festival is what cinema is all about. Bring people from many nations together in a cinema for three days to share good memories of past. Did someone say essence of cinema?

Hear Clint Eastwood talk to the trees, and follow Rossano Brazzi on a Cinerama adventure WEST of Java. See John Wayne and Kirk Douglas handle the war in the Pacific in dramatic black and white? See what lovely newcomer Nora Arnezeder is doing a Parisian Theatre in 1936 - just listen to her voice in glorious DTS sound – an amazing and beautifully photographed adventure. Enjoy Marlon Brando in a pair of tights in ancient Rome in sparkling 70mm. Freddie Young is taking you on a Technirama Holiday to the Middle East with Yul Brynner and lovely Gina Lollobrigida. Sovscope 70 is striking back with Akira Kurosawa behind the camera – an epic journey and majestic photography. The Swedes are as gay as they possibly can, set to fabulous scenery in MCS 70. Re-live MGM’s greatest moments on the silver screen - “More Stars Than There Are in Heaven” or go to the Argentinean Pampas for an adventure rarely seen - Judge for yourself in Superpanorama. Re-visit Rome in Ultra Panavision 70, with Hollywood’s biggest stars before Barbara Streisand takes you on a parade in New York.

From Japan to Argentina, from Egypt to Sweden, from the gold rush in America to volcanic eruptions in Java, from Pearl Harbor to Paris and from ancient Rome to the 1960s, the 5th Todd-AO Festival has it all – and more! Something for everyone guaranteed. The Schauburg Cinerama celebrates the wonder of 70mm and offers the audience a unique experience. A chance to see what movie-going was like, 40 years ago on a large curved screen. Those were the words, 70mm is great, but don’t take my words for it. You really have to see and listen yourself to fully understand the virtues of 70mm film presentations. On behalf of Herbert Born, director of the Schauburg, I welcome you all to enjoy “The greatest show in Todd-AO”.
