Help is needed from the FLOOD DISASTER in September 2024. Home of the KRRR! 70mm film seminar in Krnov, Czech Republic

The cinema was partly under water during the recent floods and the first week was slightly difficult for us since we were completely cut from the electricity. The days prior to the floods we prepared as much as we could, but the amount of damage the floods caused and the water level was beyond anyone's expectations.

Everyone at MIKS are OK though and the cinema building is still standing.

The first day we were able to reach the area, the cleaning works had begun and we shovelled the mud and damaged furniture out. The cleaning still isn't finished even after two weeks. We're also helping out with cleaning of three other MIKS buildings. The water reached the lobby (about 80cm), offices, toilets, storage rooms and other surrounding parts of the building, but the most precious things for us auditorium, screen, projectors, prints..., all remained untouched thanks to their upper floor position.

We're now now in the middle of drying up the walls and securing the building from additional damage. We're probably without heat for several months since the heating plant was seriously damaged. They're working on fixing the heat for apartment buildings, hospitals and schools, but cultural buildings will have to wait. I still can't tell how much the damages will cost. The furniture, floor covering and equipment in the offices and lobby hopefully can be replaced or repaired, but it will certainly take some more time and money.

The next KRRR! 70mm fest is certainly going to take place in April 2025 and should not be affected by the floods.
