Projected in VistaVision • Warner Brothers will release the film in authentic 35mm 8-perf VistaVision in four cinemas. One in Europe, and three in the US. Three places will be equipped with Ballantynes version of a "sidewinder" projector, and a fourth (Boston) will be with Century projectors as seen recently at the TCL Chinese in Hollywood.
Newly-built oversized non-rewind 'Mega'-Platters have been developed by Film-Tech, to hold the long amount of film necessary to contain the entire movie in one piece. No need for reel changes in playback. Brad Miller says:Film-Tech made special platter systems capable of holding 3 hours 1 minute of VistaVision film. The platter originally was a Christie AW3 and then we made new larger decks and gutted the Christie electronics out of them to start clean with a computer-controlled system to handle the extreme speed differential required for VistaVision.
Film-Tech also made special DTS readers for the VistaVision prints. This was needed because the only place to put the DTS timecode was where the outboard SDDS-S track would be.
Sound will be DTS (DATASAT) audio, with the changes being that the time code is outside the perforations, and the subwoofer channel audio is discrete. Unlike the way it's been done before in which the subwoofer audio was derived out of the LE and/or RE channels.

Installs VistaVision at the Coolidge Corner Theatre By Sean McKinnon Director of specialty presentations and AV integration at Boston Light & Sound | | The Bostonians are lucky having BLSI nearby, and the hugely talented Mr Jonathan Kleefeld who is playing a mighty Würlitzer organ (not at the Coolidge Corner Theatre, however). Mr. Kleefeld is even properly dressed for the 2025 projection of 8-perf VistaVision nearby.
SEPTEMBER 16, 2025
The Coolidge Corner theatre in Brookline Ma in cooperation with Warner Brothers Pictures have selected Boston Light & Sound Inc. to provide VistaVision projection services for the hotly anticipated Paul Thomas Anderson feature “One Battle After Another” opening first on film at the Coolidge Wednesday September 24th at 7pm one of only four locations worldwide to see the film in its native format
BL&S and The Coolidge are using projectors believed to be the first two prototype machines made by century projector corp. in 1953 to show the format which were provided from the George Eastman museum collection and fully restored including the fabrication of custom parts and packaged into a complete system including updated electronics and control system by Boston Light & Sound who presented the first known VistaVision presentations for the general public at this years TCM Classic Film Festival in 60 years and is supervising the installation at the Coolidge. Working with the Coolidge is nothing new for BL&S having been their service provider and projection and sound consultant on their recent expansion "they were the obvious choice to partner with and we feel they are the best in the business" said Nick Lazaro technical director at the Coolidge Corner theatre.
BL&S has also had a long history working with Warner Brothers Pictures on 70mm releases like Christopher Nolan's "Dunkirk" in 2017 and the World Premiere of Greta Gerwg's "Barbie" in 2024. VistaVision also nothing new to BL&S having installed these same machines provided by the Eastman Museum for two sold out special presentations at the TCL Chinese theatre in Los Angeles for years past TCM Classic Film Festival.
The presentation at the Coolidge will be extra special as it is the first VistaVision installation to screen the film with its full "7.1" soundtrack featuring 8 discreet digital audio channels. "With the system we are supplying at the Coolidge we had the opportunity to utilize this technology to playback the full 7.1 mix" According to Sean McKinnon Director of specialty presentations and AV integration at Boston Light & Sound. "Our team has been hard at work making sure that Paul Thomas Anderson and The Coolidge have the best presentation possible for this once in a lifetime opportunity"
