The
following is a reference / historical listing of the 70-millimeter
presentations of “Dance Craze.”
The Rank (UK) and Chrysalis/Nu-Image (USA) release — directed by Joe
Massot (“The Song Remains the Same”) and featured musical performances
by Bad Manners, The Beat, The Bodysnatchers, Madness, The Selecter, and
The Specials — originally opened in the United Kingdom in 1981.
The 70mm print of “Dance Craze” (the only one struck and imported from
the United Kingdom) was screened as a one-time-only sneak preview in New
York in March 1982. Its subsequent North American release beginning in
April 1982 — and frequent midnight screenings — was 35mm.
The 70mm print of “Dance Craze” featured Six-Track Dolby Stereo
(“A”-encoded Baby Boom format) and pillarboxed imagery (approximately
1.66:1) blown up from Super-35.
