| Compiled by: Michael Coate | Date: 20.04.2023 | The following is a reference / historical listing of the 70-millimeter engagements of “Justice League” in the United States and Canada.
“Justice League” was among six first-run films released in 2017 with 70mm prints for selected engagements. The Warner Bros. release — directed by Zack Snyder (“300,” “Man of Steel”) and starring Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Gal Gadot, Ezra Miller, Jason Momoa, Ray Fisher, Jeremy Irons, Diane Lane, Connie Nielson and J.K. Simmons — opened November 17th.
The 70mm prints of “Justice League” featured Datasat audio and pillarboxed imagery (pillarboxed 1.85:1 within letterboxed 2.39:1) sourced from a Digital Intermediate (ARRIRAW and Super-35 origination).
During the release of “Interstellar,” Warner Bros. circulated a 70mm coming-attraction trailer for “Ready Player One.”
Where known, the duration of the engagements (measured in weeks) is included in parenthesis following the cinema name.
CALIFORNIA Los Angeles — ArcLight Hollywood14 (1+) Los Angeles — ArcLight Sherman Oaks 14 (1+) Oakland — Grand Lake 4 (1+)
COLORADO Denver — Regal Continental Stadium 10 & RPX (1+)
MINNESOTA Plymouth — Willow Creek 12 (1+)
NEW YORK New York — AMC Loews Lincoln Square 13 (1+) New York — Cinema 1,2,3 (1+)
OHIO Columbus — Gateway Film Center 8 (1+)
OREGON Tigard — Regal Bridgeport Village Stadium 18 & RPX (1+) [canceled?]
QUEBEC Montreal — Cinema Banque Scotia 13 (1+)
TEXAS Arlington — Studio Movie Grill Highlands 9 (1+) Austin — Alamo Drafthouse Ritz Twin (1+) Dallas — Look Cinemas 11 (1+) Dallas — Studio Movie Grill Royal Lane 8 (1+)
WASHINGTON Seattle — Cinerama (1+)
Note that some of the presentations included in this listing may have been presented in 35mm or DCP during the latter week(s) of engagement due to contractual terms or print damage and the distributor’s unwillingness to supply a 70mm replacement print or because the booking was moved to a non-70mm-equipped auditorium within a multiplex. As well, the reverse may have been true in some cases whereas a booking began with a 35mm print because the lab was unable to complete the 70mm print order in time for an opening-day delivery or the exhibitor negotiated a mid-run switch to 70mm. In these cases, any 35mm portion of the engagement (or movement out of a branded auditorium) has been included in the duration figure.
International 70mm engagements of this title have not been accounted for in this work.
