The following is a reference / historical listing of the 70-millimeter
presentation of “Miracle on 34th Street” in North America.
“Miracle on 34th Street” was among two one-off 70mm premiere events during 1994
(“The Lion King” at Radio City Music Hall was the other), two new 70mm movie
releases (“Little Buddha” and “True Lies”) and one 70mm restoration/re-issue
(“My Fair Lady”).
The 20th Century Fox release was directed by Les Mayfield (“Encino Man”) and
starred Richard Attenborough, Elizabeth Perkins, Dylan McDermott, J.T. Walsh,
James Remar and Mara Wilson.
The 70mm print of “Miracle on 34th Street” featured pillarboxed imagery
(approximately 1.85:1) blown up from spherical 35mm. The audio was interlocked
Dolby Digital. The 70mm print was mag-striped (Dolby SR encoded) as a back-up.
