| | Compiled by: Michael Coate | Date: 25.06.2022 | The following is a reference / historical listing of the 70-millimeter engagements of “The Ninth Configuration” in the United States and Canada. These were the cinemas worth seeking out to experience this motion picture.
“The Ninth Configuration” was among eleven first-run films released during 1980 with 70mm prints for selected engagements. The Ninth Configuration Co. production and Warner Bros. release — directed by William Peter Blatty and starring Stacy Keach — opened February 8th.
United Film, during the summer of 1980, took over distribution from Warner Bros. and re-edited and re-issued the film under the title “Twinkle, Twinkle, ‘Killer’ Kane.”
The 70mm prints of “The Ninth Configuration”/”Twinkle, Twinkle, ‘Killer’ Kane” featured six-track stereophonic sound (non-Dolby) and 2.20:1 full-frame imagery blown up from anamorphic 35mm and provided a superior projection and sound experience in comparison to the film’s 35mm prints.
