“They
are the most powerful members of our community. They have a shattering
secret. A secret that will affect us all. Only one man is willing to stop
them. Now, you can know who they really are.”
The following is a reference / historical listing of the 70-millimeter
engagements of “The Star Chamber” in the United States and Canada. These
were the cinemas worth seeking out to experience this motion picture.
“The Star Chamber” was among thirteen confirmed first-run films released in
1983 with 70mm prints for selected engagements. The 20th Century Fox release
— directed by Peter Hyams (“Capricorn One,” “Outland”) and starring Michael
Douglas, Hal Holbrook, Yaphet Kotto and Sharon Gless — opened August 5th.
The 70mm prints of “The Star Chamber” featured Six-Track Dolby Stereo (“A”
encoded Baby Boom format) and full-frame imagery blown up from anamorphic
35mm.
Fox circulated 70mm Six-Track Dolby coming-attraction trailers for “All the
Right Moves,” “Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence,” “To Be or Not to Be” and “Two
of a Kind” during the release of “The Star Chamber.” Other studios
circulated 70mm trailers during this period, as well. Ultimately, any 70mm
trailers screened during 70mm presentations of “The Star Chamber” varied by
venue and screening.
The duration of the engagements (measured in weeks) is included in
parenthesis following the cinema name.
